OUR TRAVEL TEAM PROGRAM PHILOSOPHY

The Sports Edge Basketball Travel experience is designed to train dedicated basketball athletes so they may develop
their positional skills, the team concept and their understanding of the game. We achieve this by emphasizing team development, character development and of course organized, purposeful and competitive practices.
This process-driven approach puts the athlete in a position to play at their best consistently. Sports Edge
is committed to helping help each participant to pursue their goals and be prepared to play on the

Meet Our Director - Jim Yarbrough

Career Highlights Include:

Part of 3 Final Fours with 2 State Titles at The Bolles School

Helped start a new program at UWF

Associate Head Coach at College of Charleston. Part of 3 NCAA Tournaments, 2 NIT's, 153 wins in 6 seasons, and sent 1 player to the NBA

Turned Valdosta State into a Division II powerhouse. In 2002 and 2004 was South Region Coach of the Year and twice a finalist for national Coach of the Year.

Spent 9 years as a Division I Head Coach at SLU. The second-winningest coach in school history.

Coach Jim Yarbrough has been building his coaching career and teaching catalog for 35 years. Coach Yarbrough was a collegiate head coach with a 230-177 record over 14 seasons at Valdosta State University and Southeastern Louisiana University. In nine seasons at SLU, Coach Yarbrough was the second-winningest men's basketball coach in SLU history, with the second-highest winning percentage in school history. His tenure included wins over Mississippi State, Penn State, and Oregon State. At SLU, Yarbrough coached the Lions to five winning seasons and a school-record five winning campaigns in the Southland Conference, along with 11 players named to all-SLC teams.
Prior to his SLU career, Yarbrough led Valdosta State to multiple seasons in the NCAA Division II postseason tournament, including two seasons in which he was named both NCAA Division II South Region Coach of the Year and Gulf South Conference Coach of the Year. His 2003-04 Valdosta State team finished 25-4 and ranked No. 3 in the nation at the close of the season. Before beginning his college head coaching career at Valdosta State, he served six years as an assistant coach and associate head coach under John Kresse in the storied College of Charleston basketball program that compiled a 153-28 record and six conference championships during Yarbrough's years as a top assistant. He also coached at West Florida, The Bolles School, and Bishop Moore Catholic High School.

Coach Yarbrough has become a mentor, a developer of people, and helps young athletes progress their basketball skills. "Coach Y" has a reputation as a Master Teacher of the game to all levels of basketball athletes.
He has a Bachelor's Degree from FSU and a Graduate Degree from The Citadel.

2022 Season Information

Play with the Best! Sports Edge welcomes you to become part of the most exciting basketball family in Northeast Florida.
The Sports Edge Travel Team Program is designed to train dedicated basketball athletes in an attempt to expose those athletes to competitive and challenging environments to further their development and growth in the sport. Our goal within this program is to encourage athletes to pursue and further expose athletes to competitive basketball at the highest levels of club and collegiate play. Our measurement of excellence is founded in our teams competing at the top levels both in the state of Florida and Nationally in the most competitive divisions for each team, as well as our commitment to helping athletes pursue basketball at the collegiate level.
TRAINING STRUCTURE
Our goal is to create no more than two travel teams (Blue and Green) per age group (15U-17U). Our coaching staff will hold 2 college-style practices per week in preparation for the tournament season.
The travel season will run from March-July.
2022 PRACTICE SCHEDULE

Sunday, February 27th will be our first practice and parent day where we will go through all pertinent season information.
​
Teams will practice twice weekly on Tuesday and Sat/Sund (depending on your specific team). Times TBD.
​
Practices during the week will be held at the Sports Edge Training Facility located at 8457 Western Way, Jacksonville, FL 32256, and weekend practice dates will be located at the Bolles School, located at 7400 San Jose Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32217.

TEAM TUITION & TOURNAMENT CALENDAR
​
We plan to attend all available Live Period Events (Once the NCAA certifies events), in addition to “tune-up” tournaments.
​
Our tentative schedule includes 3-4 Live Period Events and 2 additional exposure events.
​
​
The cost of each team is different based on the number of tournaments these teams will attend, as well as recruiting services being included or not. We have provided a scale of cost for you listed below. The number on the highest end of the scale reflects the highest amount any one team can pay in that age group, and the lowest number reflects the minimum all based on tournament schedules.

Players will be evaluated by our coaching staff during tryouts and players invited to join these teams will be notified by Monday, February 21st.
